Welcome to my blog. Let me introduce myself and my research. My name is Pauline Goetz. I am a doctoral candidate at Western University in London, ON. I am preparing to conduct research into the nuances of the Canadian consultant archaeologist. I will be creating and running an online anonymous questionnaire to create an aggregate demographic profile for Ontario archaeologists to begin with, and then expanding out nationally. This profile will be used to create a background for my further research into exploring the archaeologist; their identities, expertise and sensibilities.

One of the key problems for understanding the role of the consultant archaeologist in Ontario (or Canada), is that there is very little data to establish a baseline for who the archaeologists are. A profile of the average archaeologist is often hypothesized but there is no available data in most of Canada on basic demographics such as age, gender or wage. There is also little data available on the experiences and realities of employment, education, and concerns of those individuals who function as the primary practitioners of archaeology in Ontario. 

This online survey is a tool to help rectify the situation stated above.  All data collected using this form will be kept anonymous-you will be asked no personal identifying information, and contributed information will only be used to present aggregate data. This survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and by submitting the form you are agreeing to allow the use of the data to be part of my study in profiling the profession.

Please only complete the survey if you are or have received financial remuneration for consultant archaeological employment in Ontario within the last 24 months. The term 'Consultant' refers to any of the common labels of CRM, ARM, Private, Mitigated, Legislated, etc. for archaeological work or archaeologists themselves that is undertaken due to provincial legislation.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at pgoetzwestern@gmail.com.  Please also feel free to contact me if you are interested in participating in more depth through one-on-one interviews that will begin to take place in 2014.
