Hello Again!
Well, the CAA's and spring (hopefully), are around the corner. I wanted to let everyone know that I am hoping to be able to present a few preliminary results from my survey in a paper at the CAA's. So this is another call out to anyone who may be interested in filling out the survey to please do so as soon as you have a few moments. It will only take maybe 10 minutes of your time. The industry in Ontario currently has no baseline data creating a demographic profile for professionals, students or interested parties to use in order to gain a perspective on the state of professional archaeology in this province. By completing this survey you will be helping to correct this gap and to allow comparisons with the national and international archaeological community. Also, if you know of anyone who may be interested please forward the link to them, or circulate it through your company. Anyone who has worked within the CRM, ARM, Consultant, For-Profit, etc., industry within the last 24 months is qualified to complete the survey. It is completely anonymous and I will ONLY use aggregate data. Although, if interested, I will be conducting follow-up interviews to provide context and more holistic data for my final research project. If you are willing to be considered for an interview on the topics broached in the survey, and on the development of professionalism and expertise in the industry, please contact me directly at pgoetzwestern@gmail.com, or pgoetz2@uwo.ca.

Hello!
It is a lovely Monday after the OAS conference in Niagara Falls. I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful response towards my project that I received in Niagara Falls. It was a great conference with many great papers.
I am looking forward to the exciting prospect of developing a baseline for the consultant archaeological industry in Ontario over the coming months. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, I would love to hear them. Please feel free to email me at pgoetzwestern@gmail.com. Welcome
Welcome to my blog. Let me introduce myself and my research. My name is Pauline Goetz. I am a doctoral candidate at Western University in London, ON. I am preparing to conduct research into the nuances of the Canadian consultant archaeologist. I will be creating and running an online anonymous questionnaire to create an aggregate demographic profile for Ontario archaeologists to begin with, and then expanding out nationally. This profile will be used to create a background for my further research into exploring the archaeologist; their identities, expertise and sensibilities.
One of the key problems for understanding the role of the consultant archaeologist in Ontario (or Canada), is that there is very little data to establish a baseline for who the archaeologists are. A profile of the average archaeologist is often hypothesized but there is no available data in most of Canada on basic demographics such as age, gender or wage. There is also little data available on the experiences and realities of employment, education, and concerns of those individuals who function as the primary practitioners of archaeology in Ontario.
This online survey is a tool to help rectify the situation stated above. All data collected using this form will be kept anonymous-you will be asked no personal identifying information, and contributed information will only be used to present aggregate data. This survey should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and by submitting the form you are agreeing to allow the use of the data to be part of my study in profiling the profession.
Please only complete the survey if you are or have received financial remuneration for consultant archaeological employment in Ontario within the last 24 months. The term 'Consultant' refers to any of the common labels of CRM, ARM, Private, Mitigated, Legislated, etc. for archaeological work or archaeologists themselves that is undertaken due to provincial legislation. If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at pgoetzwestern@gmail.com. Please also feel free to contact me if you are interested in participating in more depth through one-on-one interviews that will begin to take place in 2014. Your participation in this study is greatly appreciated and will contribute to a better understanding of the archaeological profession in this province as well as building a stable baseline for future research. Please continue to check back as I will share the results of my ongoing research through periodic blog posts.
